What you need to know

We understand that being referred to a sleep clinic for a sleep study can be a confusing time. Whether its trying to coordinate the sleep study process with your schedule, trying to find the facility, or making sure you have all the necessary medical forms completed.

At AmeriSleep Diagnostics, our friendly and dedicated staff are here to ensure your services are provided in a comfortable, professional and efficient manner.

What to Expect: Your Sleep Study Explained

After your doctor prescribes the type of study they would like for you and sends us a referral, we work with you to try to secure any authorizations from your insurance company, if necessary. If you are not using insurance, we will discuss pricing up front and schedule a time for your study.

In Facility Study

Upon your arrival, one of our experienced technicians will check you in and show you to your private room.

From there, you will have time to use the restroom to prepare for bed.

The technician will then work with you to place a number of sensors that will be able to monitor your nighttime body functions including brain waves, heart rate, leg movements and breathing.

At approximately 6 am, the technician will wake you and remove the sensors and send you on your way to get your day started.

The results from your test will be sent to be interpreted and sent to your referring physician.

What to expect during your sleep study at AmeriSleep Diagnostics:

Please bring your insurance card and ID card.
We offer water and morning coffee in our lounge. Please plan to eat dinner before you arrive.
Pillows and blankets are provided, however, you are welcome to bring your own if you feel you will be more comfortable.
Please pack an overnight bag with toiletries.
Your hair should be clean and “undone.” There are no shower facilities. Bring a face towel if you wish to wash your face.
Please do not wear make up or lotion.
Avoid caffeinated foods and beverages on the day of the test.
Bring any medications you regularly take at night.
It is advised to leave non-essential valuables at home.
Wear comfortable clothing.
Feel free to bring reading materials, handiwork, etc.
WiFi available.
Please arrive at 7:30 pm unless other arrangements are made with us.
Departure time is typically at 6 am.

Take Home Study

What to expect when your doctor recommends an AmeriSleep Diagnostics Home Sleep Study

Once our office receives a referral from your doctor, our scheduling department will reach out to you to discuss any insurance authorizations (if necessary) and determine your availability for the study.
If insurance authorizations are needed, we will attempt to secure them and call you back. (Note: As insurance coverage is between you and your insurance company, we will help you present your claim as a courtesy, however, you are ultimately responsibility for your account.)
Our office will then work with you to schedule an appointment to pick up one of our state-of-the-art machines at either our Mission Valley or Oceanside location.
During your pick-up appointment, one of our experienced staff will provide one-on-one instruction on how to use it for the best results.
The AmeriSleep Diagnostics device will be checked out to you to bring home for 1 to 2 nights.
Rest well and return the device to our office (please see each location office hours)
AmeriSleep Diagnostics then completes the technical elements of the study and has one of its sleep certified physicians interpret the results, summarizing the findings, and recommendations.
Final results will be sent to your referring doctors office usually within 7-10 business days.
